About me

1st January 2011

I began blogging in October 2009, but I’ve loved to write since I was a young girl. Most of what I’ve written over the course of my life has been kept private, so it’s a real change to now be writing on a public media arena. Actually, I love it. Does the fact that now, just fifteen months after I registered my first WordPress.com site, I have five personal blogs including this one, and manage two others, tell you anything? I do love to write. I also like to compartmentalize things, so of course, I have one blog dedicated to my quilting and sewing, another purely for writing about my piano playing, and one for a hobby that started very casually about two years ago when I created what I call my “A List“, and yet another site dedicated to genealogy. I also created and maintain the blog for the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild that I started in January 2010, and “helped” Moshe, my husband, set up his blog a little while ago. This blog, Helene’s Blog, is where I can write about everything else, ie. things that don’t belong on one of my other blogs.

So, what else about me can I tell you? I’m married to my childhood sweetheart, Moshe. We began dating when I was fifteen, and he was eighteen, and we’ve pretty much been together ever since. We got married at twenty-one and twenty-four years, which by today’s standards is young. Thirty-nine years after our first date at Frank Traynor’s in Flinders Lane, Melbourne, listening to Margaret Roadknight and Danny Spooner, we’re still very much in love, and very happy, which by today’s standards is rare, and precious. We’ve raised three daughters together, travelled the world, lived in Texas for several years, and made it through some really big challenges.

Now, I no longer work, and my life is about my family – my husband, my daughters and my son-in-law, our parents, our brothers and sisters and their families, our friends, and of course, my piano playing, my sewing, my writing, and, every now and then, a little travel. And there’s Tommy, our Bouvier.

I’m pretty happy. And content. Life is good. And underlying it all, is my commitment to making a difference. The kind of difference that really makes a difference.
